Vintage party

Thought it was about time I did a post on the vintage party I went to a few weeks ago. The party was run by a lovely lady called Rene who went to a lot of effort hanging clothing up on portable racks with nice wooden coat hangers and had a table spread with bags, purses and jewellery. I thought it might be a bit expensive and I was surprised at how reasonable to pricing was with dresses ranging from $20 to $60 and bags from $20 to $40 for a burgundy Glomesh handbag (which I resisted the urge to buy!). It was so much fun getting to rummage through and try on all the clothing and I was sad that there wasn't more that fit me because some of the dresses were so nice! I did however buy a small tapestry clutch and a sheer polka dot dress which I'm going to have the sleeves taken in on because they're a wea bit floaty on me.

That was the last party Rene will be doing for awhile but I definitely recommend you check out her online store In Love Again Vintage on facebook or catch her at the North Adelaide Vintage & Fashion Fair held on the second and fourth Sunday of every month :)

Also wanted to share with you our attempt at Raspberry and Coconut Slice. Looks a bit brown here but it tasted good! I think it's better served in a bowl with ice cream though; not really what I'd call a slice. We made some muffins as well and cookies using ninjabread cutters but they turned out more like weirdly proportioned sumo men, oops!

Last post for the year

Hello everyone, thought I'd squeeze in one last post before the end of the year in an effort to redeem myself (since I update so regularly, d'oh!). I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have recovered from any food-induced comas and bonbon related injuries. This year I once again received some lovely thrifty gifts of the glomesh variety to add to my collection including a silver handbag, cream wallet and matching coin purse. I also got a small gold handbag and a diamond shaped shell ring. If you received any thrifty gifts this season please share!

It's hard to believe that another Christmas has passed and the year is just about over. I think 2011 is going to be a really good, but busy, year for me. I got accepted into honours for my program at uni which I'm both excited and nervous about. Hopefully I won't crack under the pressure! I'll have a few friends beside me though which makes me feel better. My 21st is next year as well so I'm looking forward to celebrating that milestone. I really want to get stuck into some sewing while I still have time at the beginning of the year so will see how I go with that.

I've started a big clear out of my wardrobe and all my things in preparation for the new year and will do a post about that when I'm done; always love a good before and after. I've been thinking a lot about my 'style' so this may involve a few outfit posts (but only maybe!). I was also thinking of doing a small blog sale, but I'm not sure how many people would be interested? It would mainly be dresses I've bought from etsy/op shops that I never really got around to wearing.

Anyway, enough babble from me. I hope you all have a happy and safe New Year; see you around the corner in 2011!

Anna Sui purse

I found this gorgeous Anna Sui purse the other day at a new Salvos I discovered for $9. The lady was just putting it in to the cabinet as I walked in. I have no idea if it's a replica or not but it was brand new with the Anna Sui card inside and another card with Japanese writing all over it. It also has Anna Sui stamped onto one of the card holders. Regardless, I love the floral tapestry pattern and the lining on the inside. It has heaps of compartments and fits all my cards, love it! If anyone can shed some light on whether it's authentic or not please do as I'd be interested to know =)

Christmas loot part two

Continuing on with the op shop-related Christmas pressies, I also received this gorgeous cream coloured clutch. Just the right size to fit all my crap essentials in when I go out. The inside is all cushy and satiny:

This next one wasn't op-shopped but was given to me by my Aunty. It's a glomesh coin purse that belonged to my Dad's mum so it was a really thoughtful and sentimental present. I love glomesh and don't have anything like this in my collection.

My Aunty also bought me a ticket to another op shop tour which is in a few weeks time, can't wait! I'm going with my cousin :) Hello Linda if you're reading! This time we will definitely be nabbing a seat near the front of the bus and not be moving to the back for some lady with 'car sickness' - yeah right! This last present wasn't op-shopped as such but was still recycled in a sense. It's a Mickey Mouse watch I used to wear when I was little. Thought we had given it away but Mum found it and got a new battery put in yipee :) Was my favourite present.

So that concludes my loot of nifty thrifty Christmas pressies. Of course like anyone I enjoy new things from time to time but I love op shopping and appreciated the thought that went into these pressies :) I can safely say none will be returning to the op shop anytime soon haha.

Birthdays and bows

It's been a busy week so haven't been able to post for awhile. My Birthday was on Monday :) It was a public holiday, therefore no uni, so just spent most of the day relaxing at home which was great! As well as some books, jewellery and moolah from various people, I also got a couple of op shop-related goodies...

The first was a cute handbag which I happen to know came from an op shop. I love the colour and bow, and it has a really soft leathery kind of texture. The second was two tickets to an Op Shop Tour which was part of the Fringe! Me and Mum went to this on Tuesday; shall post about it in the next blog :)

Bits and bobs

Just a few bits and bobs I collected from various op shops.

Black opaque tights - 50c
White dotty tights - 50c
Brown plait belt - $1
White plait belt - $2
Silky scarves - $1 or so each
Brown and gold weave shoes - $4

While I buy quite a few clothes, I'm not yet (or ever, I hope) at the stage of buying underwear from op shops... I figured the tights were ok though as they're brand new and still in their packaging. This is the first pair of shoes I've bought from an op shop - will need to replace the innersoles but apart from that they're in fairly good condition :) I loved the patterns and colours on the scarves.
